With the explosion of moonshine distilleries, wineries and craft breweries in Sevier County, many still ask is Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Gatlinburg dry?  Rightly so, as technically the only city with package stores is Gatlinburg.  (Ever wonder why liquor stores are called package stores or ‘Packy?’  History might say a package store was by definition providing liquor packaged for consumption elsewhere, or that which must be concealed in a bag or box and thus called packages.)

If it’s a package store you’re looking for, Gatlinburg now has five of them which can open for sales every day of the week.  Package stores are closed on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.  While hours may vary, law allows them to operate between 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Sunday.

Although a package store is only found within Gatlinburg city limits, there are plenty of options throughout the county to get full bottles of your favorite adult beverages.  Do you prefer a distillery, winery or craft brewery?

Distillery sales are legal – just as package stores – between 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Sunday.

A Winery has a little more leeway and can offer sales from 8 a.m.-12 a.m. every day of the week.

Beer and wine can be found in local retail stores, and just like package stores and distilleries, sales are permitted between 8 a.m.-11 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m.-11 p.m. on Sunday, with no sales on Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter.
