From Valley Low to Mountain High Fall Colors and Fun

It’s “go” time for fall fun in the Smokies! You don’t need a dime (except gas money) to have a blast during the fall here. The trees put on a show! Color everywhere you turn. It’s merely the icing on the cake that area entertainment venues come alive this time of year, holding out endless options for other kinds of fun for the many thousands who pour into the area. North of the River Fall Driving Tour

First entertainment stop? Dollywood! That’s right. The amusement park is open for thrill-seekers, shoppers, and show lovers alike long after swim season ends and the waterpark closes. You can get some pretty decent grub, too! The park’s Harvest Festival runs through October 28^th and is sure to get you in the fall mood. From gorgeous decorations like the 40-foot pumpkin tree to a spate of fall-themed snacks and special treats for sale, Dollywood will ooze all things fall. The Harvest Festival will bring some serious talent to the stage for lovers of gospel, bluegrass and country music. You just have to go!

As you travel throughout the Gatlinburg – Pigeon Forge – Sevierville area during this most glorious season, you’ll see wonderfully creative decorations celebrating the area’s joint Smoky Mountain Harvest Fest Celebration! Take lots of pictures and enjoy the abundant sunshine and refreshingly cooler temperatures.

Wait! Have we mentioned the big party you’re invited to? That’s right! Sevierville’s History and Haunts takes place October 17, from 6-8 p.m. down on Bruce Street and Court Avenue in Sevierville. There will be guided walking tours, storytelling, a costume contest, a dance party and fireworks! Enjoy the wonderfully renovated downtown area while celebrating with friends and family.

You’re up here, why not go UP there? Take the Skylift to Gatlinburg SkyPark from the middle of downtown Gatlinburg 1,800 feet up Crockett Mountain. You might even see a bear beneath your feet, foraging the autumn landscape. The lift will let you out in a setting affording spectacular Smoky Mountain Views. While you’re up there, take a stroll across longest pedestrian cable bridge on the continent. At the halfway point you’ll be able to see beneath your feet…you’ll be walking on glass for thirty feet! It’s a breathtaking and exhilarating adventure and excellent family memory to make. Bring your camera and zoom lens. You never know what beautiful sights nature will afford from that high perch. Plan on a few panoramic pics, too!

Another high on the mountain fall experience, the Ober Mountain Smoky Mountain Fall Festival, features food, fun and live music daily from September 20^th through November 2^nd. On October 12^th and 13^th, you can watch experts carve 100-pound pumpkins into natural works of art. Ober Mountain can be accessed by aerial tram from the downtown Gatlinburg area, adding to the “mountaintop” experience!

Anakeesta, another mountain-high venue in the Smokies, celebrates their Bear-Varian Fall Festival from September 13^th through October 31^st. Visitors will enjoy special entertainment, Bavarian treats and, for an additional fee, can sample local and regional craft beers.

When you two are out exploring Sevier County during your fall adventure here, don’t forget to swing into The Island in Pigeon Forge. You will find adorable photo ops everywhere. These people know how to set the scene for social-media-ready fall family pictures! You can grab a delicious bite to eat and even take some seasonal treats home with you. Shop the unique stores, build a teddy bear and take a ride on one of The Island’s fun attractions!
